Flowering characteristics, cut-flower quality, the percentage of rosette formation and the degree of flower malformation of Gypsophila paniculata L. were investigated at June and September harvest time. Flower stalk length, node number and lst branch number of June harvest (JH) were much better than those of September harvest (SH). Cut-flower length was 82.5 cm at JH, while it was 52.9 cm at SH. Rosette formation rate of SH (24.4%) was much higher than that of JH (1.3%), and flower malformation rate of SH was 92.5%, while no flower malformation occurred at JH. Every June cut-flower had its normal paniculata inflorescence, while 37.5% of September cut-flower showed abnormal inflorescence. In the comparison of floret characteristics, the floret of SH was larger in its size and had more number of petal than that of JH. And the number of petal cluster which was not observed at JH was 9.9 ea/floret at SH. This made the floret weight higher at SH. There was significant difference in contents of color pigment, especially, in the florets between two harvest time. Higher anthocyanin and chlorophyll content and lower carotene content in leaf and malformed floret at SH were measured.
